Chris O'Sullivan
Esther is a back end legend. She whipped our Heroku pipeline into shape - including effortlessly using AWS lambda to ensure that Elasticsearch instances are setup and torn down as needed. She spearheaded our migration from lexoo.co.uk to lexoo.com (without losing any of our emails). She was the Senior Developer in the GMT timezone, and provided always provided useful feedback and mentorship. She gave a great talk at last year's Rubyconf on how to build a Ruby Web Server from scratch. Esther is kind, generous, and a great person to work with. She was always looking at ways to improve the codebase and helped me figure out the best practices for remote working. You'd be lucky to get her.

Esther was the wall to our backs whenever we were faced with bewildering, difficult-to-analyse bugs. She is an accomplished developer with a strong understanding of OS fundamentals, database internals, Ruby internals, and more generally, the hard technical details of whatever she ends up working with. She is open, communicative, forward-thinking, and able to manage a backlog in such a way that delivers maximum value for any team she’s working on. Also, did you know she got through as a founder at YC17!? If your organisation builds software then you should stop reading this and hire her immediately.

- Worked on backlog of tasks for events ticketing platform one of which was real time batch background jobs processing using a combination of ActionCable, WebSocket, Redis, VueJS and Turbolinks with integration and controller test specs. - Implemented integration with payment and mailing API for payments, billing, subscription, unsubscription and emailing jobs at several points in the customer order flow - Implemented a procurement data submission system with a distributed systems architecture. I was instrumental in all parts of the stack from building API endpoints, frontend interfaces, AWS lambda functions with SQS queues, architecting docker containers, writing tests and connecting it all in end-to-end system on a CI pipeline with test, staging and production environments on AWS. In addition, I wrote Terraform scripts to automate infrastructure resources creation on AWS for all environments. - Built an internal tool that automates fetching of content on Contentful and queueing contents in Buffer using both APIs hooked into our internal Slack channel for monitoring using Zapier webhook complete with unit tests deployed to Heroku. - Handled devops for a mobile virtual network operator for multiple environments involving SSH, Ansible, AWS, Softlayer, deployment operations, SSL certificates, etc. Show less
