www.VANTOT.comProduct design> specialised in lighting: indoor & outdoorVANTOT is the collective title for the works of Esther Jongsma and Sam van Gurp. Literally translated from Dutch to mean ‘from to’, VANTOT focuses on the entire process, starting with a technique and ending with the product. The pair strives to find new applications for innovations in everyday life, and it’s not only new-found technologies which have seized their interest. Serving as a guiding light in the duo’s work, antiquated techniques are put to good use in modern day outlets, mutually benefiting from today’s updated knowledge base. Take electricity. Although light bulbs have been around for centuries, innovations – such as the rise of the LEDs – have made continuous evolution possible. And today, electronic devices operate on much lower voltages than ever before, significantly decreasing its hazardous aspects. While direct contact with electricity – and light – used to be a no go, recent developments illuminate completely new realms for the old technology. By embedding electronic paths into a multitude of surfaces, VANTOT redesigns the relationship between humans and electricity, especially in home environments.

    • Project Manager Dutch Design Week
      • Jan 2017 - Present

Dutch Design Week is thé design evenement in Eindhoven helt in October. Peggy Dieters-Cup and I took the lead in the overall organisation of this event at Sectie C where we've welcomed over 25.000 people. We definitely didn't do this with the two of us, but we created a large team including professionals and many volunteers. Our role included managing the team, controlling the budget, taking care of the finance, requesting the permit and insurance, contracting the HORECA, taking care of the crowd control and many facility services.

https://issuu.com/miesloogmanenlightens/docs/visieboek_sectie-cAs board of Vereniging Sectie C we took the initiative to create all together a vision to 'Open up to the City'. A conversation piece, to be able to develop Sectie-C further into a common direction. I'm very proud as the initiative to transform the coffee place did already happen. We are able to dream, but we also do realise our dreams. Eindhoven is in transition. Sectie-C is in transition. Sectie-C exists of designers and makers who think in possibilities instead of limitations. This characterizes the growing group of creative entrepreneurs perfectly, but in the meantime also has a disadvantage for the place. Why? Because many think that they can do it all by themselves at Sectie-C. And that’s a misunderstanding. The ideas across the vision document are ambitious and can’t be realized without financial support, participation and involvement of third parties. Many inhabitants of Sectie-C are well known beyond the borders of the Netherlands. We would be ignorant if we as the Netherlands, as Noord-Brabant and Eindhoven don’t take the chance to work with these people on Sectie-C to bring the terrain and thus the city Eindhoven to a higher level. The value that will be accomplished will put Sectie-C worldwide and permanently on the map. Everyone profits from that. Sectie-C welcomes you therefore. Opening up to the City.

Teaching in the department: Man & Leisure - Studio Module. In the studio module we always work together with a client. I'm there to tutor personal projects and to help them positioning them into the real world outside the Design Academy. Sometimes there is a website created during the semester. The students are in the 3rd year when they do a studio module. Examples: 2018: https://www.studioofbenevolence.nl/ & 2020: https://www.studiomonumentum.nl/ Developing and teaching the classes: Profiling & Positioning. It concerns on the one hand personal positioning by creating a portfolio as well as reflecting on the position of design and designers in our current society. What is the role of the designer in a rapidly changing society; what is the value of designed products and services and who is the audience? How can designers add value on a personal and societal level? How can designers create fitting business models?

www.KETTERENCO.nl Project manager Basically my role was to make many things within this project happen. INITIATIVE - RESEARCH - DEVELOPMENT - ORGANISATION - REALISATION of projects for the benefit of social, social and urban space Colony Collection The Colony Collection is a social design collection of products and services that have been inspired by the prison village of Veenhuizen. The collection shows a less known aspect of the history, current situation and possible future of Veenhuizen. Young designers of Design Academy Eindhoven work on products that tell the story of the unusual past of the former colony for the poor that Veenhuizen was. There are also products and services that respond to the daily reality of prison life in the prisons of Veenhuizen. The creativity of the designers can be a powerful addition to redefining the possible future of this monumental village. When doing so, the talents and abilities of detainees and the potential of the well-equipped workshops of the prison in Veenhuizen are taken into account. This way, life in captivity is connected to the outside world. The first eight projects for the Veenhuizen Collection are being developed at the initiative of KETTER&Co. This is done in close cooperation with the Municipality Noordenveld, the Province Drenthe and the Penitentiaire Inrichting (P.I.) Veenhuizen.

Exhibition designer and Projectmanager, in collaboration with HEIMAT Capital-M, city of the masters of Sint Lucas Antwerp and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. For the first time their graduation projects have been brought together into one exhibition: over 100 students from 11 different programmes will consciously and unconsciously enter into a dialogue with each other and with you. The structure of the exhibition is based on the urban ring, where projects have been organically positioned in a periphery around a centre. The blue coloured city centre holds a number of activities and functions: a workshop, a (free) podium, a bookshop, a meeting place… As a guideline for your visit to this city, you can follow the route of four professionals: Sara Weyns, Guy Rombouts, Kessel Kramers and Thomas Widdershoven. • Jan 2014 - Dec 2014

www.middelheimmuseum.be Exhibition designer & Projectmanager I had the opportunity to work closely together with several artists and develop art pieces. Besides that I was responsible together with Pieter Boons for the planning and exhibition design of several exhibitions and performances. The Middelheim Museum presents a highly diverse range of collection pieces and exhibition projects, combining both in a well-considered, selective acquisition policy linked to continuous reflection. The museum, which combines an ambitious museum programme with an attractive urban park setting, positions itself on the local, national and international level, in terms both of its collection and the latter’s accessibility.
