Medical Intern
-
Aug 2016 - Sep 2016
I spent 5 weeks working in a general clinic, a maternal clinic, a hospital, and an isolated village in La Ceiba. I practiced third-term checkups, including the location of the fetal heartbeat and vital signs/urine and glucose testing, actively participated in an open biopsy surgery, assisted with physical therapy and missionary work, translated languages in a health education study, almost got mugged by a gangster, improved both my medical and conversational Spanish immensely, and spent 4 days without usable water. It was shockingly eyeopening to see healthcare provision in a completely different culture, with both its ups and downs. Show less
