I am studying how forest degradation across New England affects relationships between trees and the soil microbiome. I hope to find microbial community compositions that are beneficial for tree health and apply this into a restoration context in the future. I studied how active and passive restoration affect the recovery of dead wood carbon pools and insect communities in Southern Costa Rica. I found that plantations accelerate dead wood carbon recovery significantly. I led and trained field teams across 35 study sites spread across 533km2. Obtained over $250,00 in grant funding as a PhD candidate. I studied how active and passive restoration affect the recovery of dead wood carbon pools and insect communities in Southern Costa Rica. I developed an innovative and cost-effective strategy to restore plants from the Bromeliaceae family in restoration plantations in Southern Costa Rica, obtaining over 70% plant survival. I analyzed ecological data using linear and non-linear mixed effects modelling, and parametric tests. I published the results in a peer-reviewed international journal.
