As a recent graduate interested in corporate law, I immersed myself in the corporate world first handed, as the third member of the in-house legal team for the international Korean conglomerate Daewoo starting production in Mexico under the Maquiladora program. In-house Counsel. Partnered with external law firms in charge of the company’s governance and compliance policies to create an optimal flow of information and expedite solution of daily issues. Negotiated, drafted and reviewed the national and international supplier’s contracts, employment contracts and lease contracts. Led the team in charge of maintaining the immigration status of the foreign (Korean) employees and the Mexican employees traveling to Korea for training. Doubled as personal General Counsel and advisor for the Korean directors and managers of Daewoo in Baja California, Mexico. Advised on protocol and cultural matters for the Korean / Mexican interaction; closely working with the team of Korean translators and junior directors. I considered it as a very enriching experience in my life that opened my eyes to the reaches of other cultures and of my own.
