Opened the Rome office for the International Foundation for Development Alternatives (IFDA) and covered activities of all UN agencies (FAO, WFP, WFC and IFAD) as well as that of Italian and international NGOs based in Rome and working in the field of development and the environment. Travelled to several third world countries to interview people and write articles about development projects, about the environment that were published in several languages by IFDA and by IPS. Was among the first Arab journalists to visit the Occupied Palestinian Territories in December 1986. Wrote a series of feature articles about the harsh situation of the Palestinian people that were published in a booklet "Behind the Palestinian Intifadha" by the Penang based Third World Network.
