    • Founder and President of Brain Exercise Initiative
      • Apr 2019 - Present

The Brain Exercise Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that uses simple math, reading aloud, and writing exercises as an intervention to improve cognitive function in those with Alzheimer's Disease. Our work is based on the research done by Japanese neuroscientist, Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, who has found that simple math exercises and reading aloud for just 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week can have a positive impact on memory for those with Alzheimer's Disease. We currently have chapters at over 80 universities in the U.S. and Canada with over 1300 volunteers. Some of our chapters include UCLA, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon. Not only do we implement brain exercises at retirement homes but we also provide an all-too-rare avenue for intergenerational service, discussion, and collaboration. We are partnered with Hilarity for Charity, a nonprofit founded by Seth Rogen aimed at providing resources for those with Alzheimer's Disease; and Goodwin Living, a nonprofit that have developed a curriculum aimed at improving memory in Alzheimer's Disease patients. Furthermore, in collaboration with Georgia Tech's Bits of Good, we have developed a smartphone-based application that Alzheimer's patients can use. It can be found on the Apple App Store or Google Play by searching "Brain Exercise Initiative". I will be a speaker at the LeadingAge Conference in Denver, Colorado in October 2022 and the American Society on Aging Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in March 2023. Show less

      • Mar 2020 - Jun 2021

The Learning Assistants (LA) Program in the Sciences at UCLA is an evidence-based, multidisciplinary instructional strategy, in which undergraduate students who have succeeded in a given course learn how to help the next group of students succeed in that course. I was the Logistical Head LA for general and organic chemistry courses in which I selected applicants, organized schedules, and ensured the successful implementation of LAs into discussion sections/office hours. As part of the Program Development Team, I was one of only 6 students working closely with the director of the Program to train Head LAs, lead meetings, organize daily logistics and select applicants. • Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leader of the Learning Assistant Program
      • Sep 2019 - Jun 2021

PLTL is a new approach to teaching in which undergraduate students who have done well in a class are recruited and trained as workshop leaders or peer leaders who guide the efforts of a group of six to eight students. I was involved in the implementation of PLTL in chemistry courses. I trained PLTL facilitators and led weekly seminars.

Our group’s vision is to introduce fundamentally new imaging and sensing architectures that can compensate in the digital domain for the lack of complexity of optical components by use of novel theories and numerical algorithms to address the immediate needs and requirements of Telemedicine for Global Health Problems. Some projects I have worked on include "Water Turbidity Measurement Using a Smartphone-based Reader" and "High-throughput early detection and classification of bacterial colonies using time-lapse coherent imaging and deep learning". I am a co-author in four peer-reviewed manuscripts, three of which are in Nature. Show less

    • Neuro/Biology Intern at Biosplice Therapeutics
      • Jul 2018 - Sep 2018

Biosplice Therapeutics is a leader in medical research focused on developing medicine for a wide range of diseases including osteoarthritis, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease using the Wnt pathway. I interned during the summers of 2019 and 2019. My project was to check for the molecular signature of SM07883, a potential therapeutic for Alzheimer’s Disease. I detected gene regulation in cells in vitro after SM07883 treatment. I mastered how to culture and treat SH-SY5Y cells (a neuroblastoma cell line), extract RNA, synthesize cDNA and perform qPCR. I was invited to return the following summer. Show less

I was selected as the only student in my grade to attend this program at UCSD where we learned about reproductive biology, in vitro fertilization, cancer biology, bioethics and oncofertility. My research poster, “The Correlation between Higher Levels of Dioxin in the Atmosphere and Decreased Sertoli Cell Proliferation”, was chosen as one of the top in the class. Thus, I was invited to present my research poster at the Oncofertility Consortium at Northwestern University’s School of Medicine in November 2017. Show less
