At Postmedia I am responsible for leading a team which includes Data Analysts, and ETL, BI, Java and ESB Developers. Some of these team members work from other locations and from home offices. I meet directly with various business stakeholders to gather requirements, provide status updates and set priorities for their various requests. I ensure our team balances day to day operations and enhancements among numerous larger projects that impact the Data Warehouse. For projects that involve mostly Data Warehouse work I have acted as Project Manager and provided progress reports to the PMO.Our company does not have a Data Warehouse Architect so I share some of those responsibilities. I am involved in guiding many of the technical and design decisions related to the data warehouse. For some projects I have been involved right from requirements to delivery of the solution to the end user. As time permits I still do data analysis, detailed design and development.I work closely with various technical groups including Infrastructure, Database Administration and other Application Managers on a daily basis.I am also responsible for compiling job descriptions, interviewing and making hiring decisions on the team. When projects require additional Data Warehouse resources I have been responsible for evaluating and selecting external candidates for those roles.

Upon joining Vantage Media I was given responsibility for starting the warehouse build. I worked with others to gather requirements, then I developed a warehouse architecture, developed a data model, and began building the DB, ETL packages and OLAP cubes. Today the warehouse has over 500 ETL processes running daily and is several TB in size. The warehouse integrates data from several internal systems and external sources (including advertising partners, client feedback and demographics). The warehouse is built using the Microsoft BI stack including SQL Server, SQL Agent, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and Sharepoint. All key areas of the business rely on the Data Warehouse including Finance, Channel Managers, Client Services and Partner Management. While my actual title is 'DB and BI Manager' I am currently responsible for everything from Warehouse Architecture to Information Delivery to the end user. I also lead a team that maintains and enhances the Data Warehouse to meet the businesses changing needs.
