Educational Consultant: Classroom and Campus Climate leads and supports the UBC teaching and learning community's professional and capacity development in creating classroom climate that is supportive of teaching and learning. The position takes a research-based approach and provides consultation, process design, facilitation, programming, and resource development services to the University community focused on classroom climate, especially on delivering productive classroom discussions on politically and culturally sensitive issues. The position offers expertise on the assessment of classroom and campus climate and the implications this has on teaching practices and learning experiences at UBC as well as external communities. This position provides ongoing consultation services on assessment within CTLT as well as with external stakeholders, and is responsible for evaluating educational resources, programs, and services on classroom climate for further development. The position addresses differences in social identities and social structures in the classroom, for example, the impacts of race, ethnicity, ancestry, gender, sexuality, ability, class, and religion on classroom dynamics, and how these dynamics affect each person's ability to engage in teaching and learning processes. The position supports and aligns university-wide strategic priorities outlined in Place and Promise and newly emerging initiatives, such as Indigenous engagement, intercultural learning, inclusion, student diversity, and student wellbeing. In partnerships with relevant groups across campus, the position plans and delivers strategies to cultivate pedagogical practice and campus culture that foster the inclusion of diverse voices, including those that have been marginalized or excluded, for respectful and meaningful dialogues.
