Host staffing is a recruitment agency which employs for one off events such as festivals, races and any big event. Working at multiple events has allowed me to gain a wide knowledge into the service industry. Bartending, plate waiting, barista work and wine waiting are a few of the roles I have had at separate events during my time at host. The large events mean that I work alongside a team, this helped to develop my team-working and communication skills which undoubtedly help me in other jobs which I perform.

Working at the oval gave me brilliant experience working at professional events with VIP members who expect the best service from all employees. During my time here I would take care of a section of tables providing breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea. Teamwork is key working at such a big event with up to 400 guests as you need to co-ordinate with the host team, managers, kitchen staff and runners to provide an efficient service. Because of this, this job taught me quick- thinking and efficiency.

I worked in a doughnut shop where I would often run the shop alone serving 300+ products a day alongside making and serving specialist coffee, milkshakes, and ice-cream. This taught me great salesman skills while also increasing my communication skills as I talked to customers. Working as a tutor for 18 months allowed me to refine my team-working and time management skills. I would tutor 6 children at one time all of varying age groups (4-16) and abilities. This meant that I had to be able to split my time and attention between each child while often helping new tutors to manage their time well to finish tasks to the best of their ability, while still aiding the children with work. Each child is different and learns in different ways so it was common for me to have to adapt my teaching methods for each individual, thinking on the spot to create examples and plans which the child could relate to and understand. I often worked on the front desk which enabled me to greatly improve my customer service skills, dealing with any queries or complaints from customers that might arise.
