High School Science Teacher

Aug 2016 - Jul 2019
I am the sole teacher for Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics at Sevastopol High School, the top K-12 school district in the State of Wisconsin. I am a highly effective communicator with students, parents, and staff. My goal as a teacher is to first and foremost build healthy and respectful relationships with my students that lets them know I care about them as students and as people. I think of my teaching style as "strict, yet loving." I have high expectations for my students and work hard to help my students reach them. My professional priorities include increasing writing in my content area, creating interdisciplinary content, differentiating my curriculum to best support all students, and keeping my curriculum rigorous while incorporating the NGSS standards. I have created multiple unique units for my courses, including using "The Poisoner's Handbook" and "The Radium Girls" to teach radioactivity and using "All the Light We Cannot See" to teach about electromagnetic waves (which was a collaborative project with the freshman English teacher.) I teach using the ASU Modeling Curriculum in my physics course and my goal is to become certified to teach and implement the chemistry modeling curriculum by next school year (2019-2020). I take initiative outside of the classroom to better myself as a teacher, having recently attended an 80-hour FabLab training course, chaperoned students at a Biotechnology Summer Camp through the Morgridge Institute at UW-Madison, and attended the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education at the University of Notre Dame. In this position, I communicated directly and effectively with professors and their students for Introduction to Chemistry, General Chemistry 1, and General Chemistry 2. I led study sessions throughout the semester and prior to midterm and final exams. I had designated weekly hours in the academic support services Math Lab for students to visit as well.
