Having submitted a manifesto which I read out in a hustings in front of my year group, I was invited to interview with the Principal and Head of Sixth Form at AGGS before ultimately being awarded the role of Student Leader. In this role I coordinate Student Council meetings and guide the focus of our projects to improve the school environment. Furthermore, I act as a liaison between staff and students, helping to create positive changes. So far, I have played a key role in developing a new structure to elect student council members from lower school to ensure the best candidates in each form are awarded the role so it does not become a popularity contest. I have also made it a priority for us to focus on community within school and developing more connection between different year groups through the implementation of a House System in school. Together with 2 other students, I lead astrophysics club at school in which I work collaboratively to deliver presentations to younger students about different topics in physics, space, mathematics, and philosophy. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about several of my areas of interest and also offers me the ability to develop my public speaking and presentation skills. Past topics have included extra-terrestrial life and whether or not mathematics is fundamental to the universe (I’m inclined to say that it is not!) Show less

    • PwC Work Experience Program
      • Aug 2023 - Aug 2023

After participating in a selection process involving a psychometric assessment and a video interview, I was invited to spend one week at PwC’s Manchester office learning about the company and taking part in skills sessions. I enjoyed the opportunity to take part in taster sessions exploring tax, consultancy, auditing, and technology. Speaking to partners and other members of the firm gave me an invaluable opportunity to ask questions and understand the various roles at PwC. Over the course of the week, I worked in a group of 5 to research and pitch a slide deck relating to the construction of a new office for a firm. This allowed me to develop my ability to collaborate with others to come up with creative solutions to an unfamiliar problem and gave me a taste of the role of a consultant in a large professional services firm. Pitching our idea to a partner and a senior manager, I was delighted with the feedback that I spoke eloquently, answered questions with conviction, and had a confident presence. Show less

Had the opportunity to take part in a week long work experience program with HSBC which involved a mix of online and in person days learning about the bank. Online, I took part in various sessions covering personal finance, career development, and presentation skills. I also had the opportunity to speak to various members of organisations within HSBC such as First Direct Bank, M&S Bank, and SVB. I further spent two days in the Manchester Office for the GTRF (Global Trade and Receivable Finance) department. Learning about the role of the bank in bridging the payment gap between imports and exports was exceptionally interesting. I gained incredibly valuable skills in networking through the opportunity to discuss the importance of this departments work with several employees. Furthermore, I learned about different departments from people working in India, the UAE, and various other locations. Having such a rounded view of the bank and it’s global presence has prompted me to research further into GTRF and other similar departments for potential future career paths. I was excited by the macroeconomic view necessary for the job and it was brilliant to see many of the concepts I have learned in economics lessons being transferred to the working world. Show less

Across multiple sessions, I learned about economics modelling and decision making. These hour-long weekly sessions were delivered by scholars at Cambridge university and greatly developed my understanding of Economics, as well as furthering my passion to study it at a higher level. In particular, I loved exploring the mathematical foundations of game theory and how I can link my love for maths with real-life problem solving for policy making. • Barrister | Mock Trial Competition
      • Sep 2022 - Nov 2022

At the start on Y12, I had the pleasure of being part of the Mock Trial team as both a prosecution and defence barrister. After trying out for, and receiving, the role, I worked to analyse the case briefs we had been given and construct well-formed legal arguments. Over the course of 2 months, I attended regular practise sessions with the rest of the team and learned a great deal about working in the legal industry. I was delighted to have worked closely with 2 practising barristers, taking on their feedback in terms of my delivery and how to act in front of the court. On the day of the trial, my team made it to the final where we very narrowly lost out on winning overall. It was a hugely beneficial experience which taught me a great deal about public speaking, constructing arguments, and responding to unfamiliar situations. Although I am not looking towards a career in law, I know that this experience has facilitated the development of many transferable skills which I can apply to whatever job role I take on in the future. With session topics ranging from the twin prime theorem to modelling using parabolas, I learned a great deal about a range of different mathematical concepts and also met other students from across the UK who share a similar love for mathematics as I do. It was an exceptional experience which allowed me to gain insight into what studying mathematics at university may be like. Show less
