Jun 2013 - Aug 2014
As an Audubon Nature Camp Naturalist, I lead groups of 12 children grades 1st-6th for five day camp sessions. Each week I taught lessons and lead activities based on the theme of the week; oceans, wetlands, forests, insects, and birds. Each week I had a new high school volunteer, part of my job was acting as a mentor to them and helping them lead activities and learn how to guide and work with the children. At Echo Hill Outdoor School I lead a variety of environmental classes for students grades 3rd-10th. These ranged from sustainability practices, to Chesapeake Bay watershed management, to the ecology of the local ecosystems. I also facilitated team building activities including high ropes courses. I supervised the residential aspects of outdoor school. I organized schedules and planned trainings for residential duties as well as performed seasonal evaluations for each staff member. 2006 - 2012
I spent six summers working with kids ages 8-18. I lead nature activities and taught kids how to decrease our impact on the environment. In addition I lead everyday camp activities such as games, songs, canoeing and hiking. I also wrote curriculum for our developing nature program. I spent 2-3 weeks each summer leading wilderness expedition trips with a group of 7-10 campers. I taught them wilderness skills and facilitated team building initiatives.
