As a post-doctoral research associate I have had many opportunities to develop professionally and as a scientist. Thus far, my post-doctoral research has focused on trace mineral metabolism in ruminants with an emphasis on comparing different trace mineral sources. One of my key roles is coordinating and mentoring undergraduate research assistants in a laboratory setting. I have also been involved in writing and reviewing grants for submission to various funding agencies including the United States Department of Agriculture and the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research.

    • Graduate Research Assistant

My graduate research focuses on how stressors, such as transit, influence oxidative stress in beef cattle. Because oxidative stress can be energetically expensive and negatively impact immune function it is important to understand how we might mitigate this response through nutrition. I have investigated the effects of supplementing yeast fermentation products, vitamin E, as well as injectable vitamin C, with the hypothesis that these products improve antioxidant status and thus lessen the amount of oxidative stress an animal experiences resulting in improved health, performance and profitability.
