Senior research role in the National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS) research program. The NCAS is the world's longest running population survey of violence against women attitudes of its kind. By investigating and benchmarking attitudes that condone violence against women and gender inequality, the NCAS forms a key component of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. The research program involved a population-level representative survey of Australian attitudes (the NCAS), as well as two qualitative studies on attitudes and understandings of violence against women. In particular, I co-led the management, development, analysis and reporting of the 2021 NCAS. I also led a qualitative research project on young people's understandings of violence in intimate relationships and co-led another qualitative study on factors surrounding mistrust of women's reports of sexual violence. Together, these large studies provided important insights for policy and prevention initiatives aimed at reducing and preventing violence against women. Show less

Project management and research for the Mission Australia Youth Survey, which is the largest annual survey of young people of its kind in Australia. I played a key role in the development, data collection and analysis of the survey data, as well as through production and publication of the Youth Survey Report. One area I excellened was in recruitment and networking with the aim of growing the survey sample of young people; in my first year in the role, I helped grow the sample by more than 3,000 young people, to a total of 28,000+ participants, and improving representation for the smaller states (for example, the SA and QLD samples grew by more than 20% each). Thematic Group Co-Convener
-
Nov 2016 - Nov 2019
I was Co-Convener of the Social Theory Thematic Group within the Australian Sociological Association (TASA). This role involved developing the network by planning, developing and executing workshops by developing grant applications and coordinating events. I worked with the Co-Conveners to coordinate the annual conference by moderating the concurrent sessions and assessing submitted papers. I regularly liaised with organisational representatives, group members, and publishers in friendly and effective manner. We developed two workshops during our tenure as Thematic Group Co-Conveners. The first, held in November 2017, was the very first event of the Social Theory Thematic Group, titled "Emotions and Social Theory: Reflexivity, Critique and Structure". The second was held in November 2018, titled "Activist Movements and Social Theory Power Resistance and Protest Since 1968". Show less

My doctoral study was in the fields of sociology, social theory and political philosophy. I reconstructed the work of three political theorists via the philosophy of phenomenology in order to develop a new theory of political action, which I termed 'making a difference in the world'.
