Independent Research, BIO 499, UW-La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, Spring 2020-presentInvestigating red blood cell clearance (RBC) in thirteen-lined ground squirrels (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus), in both the hibernating and non-hibernating state to test whether RBC lifespan is increased during torpor. I integrated critical thinking to recognize problems and implement new hypotheses or develop alternate approaches. I implemented flow cytometry to quantify biotin labeled RBC clearance and maintained attention to detail while pipetting small quantities of solutions to achieve accurate results Independent Research, BIO 499, UW-La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, September 2017- Fall 2020Examining the stability of immature red blood cells in thirteen-lined ground squirrels (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus), throughout their hibernation cycle. I utilized BCA protein assay to determine protein levels in red blood cells. Cooperated and productively planned with three group members to collect and analyze data over a series of time points.
