    • A bit more about me
      • 1979 - 1979

I wrote my first computer program in 1979 and got my first personal computer in 1980. I wrote my own video games on that computer, a Commodore Vic 20 with 20KB of ROM and 5KB of RAM and using a cassette deck for storage. They were pretty crude but better than console games (like Atari) of the time. In the 1980’s I built a wireless network so that I could access my university’s computer network from my apartment. In 1990 I built a helmet to helmet communication system using ham radio equipment so my friends and I could stay in contact with each other on cross country motorcycle road trips. In 2000 I installed a Wireless Access Gateway on my home computer so that I could access data through a cell phone without needing a data subscription from my wireless service provider. That phone was the first “smart phone” - a grey market Erickson R380 World. I am currently working with the San Francisco Emergency Wireless Mesh to use ham radio to create private high speed WiFi data and voice networks to aid in disaster recovery if the internet goes down. In 2022 I became an FAA certified Commercial Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) pilot. I'm still learning how to fly and shoot drone photos and videos. I intend to add this to my consulting services once I'm good enough at it. In my free time I read books, play dominoes and Scrabble, and listen to live Jazz and Americana whenever I can. I've also taken up building and software tuning FPV freestyle and racing drones. Show less
