Billiton was bought by Gencor (South African mining company) from Shell and in order to enable the separation of Billiton IT systems from the Shell infrastructure several information and networktopology studies were conducted. Some of these studies focussed on satelite communication between remote (gold, copper, iron and bauxite) mines and the Billiton centre in Leidschendam with the aid of IntelSat, InMarSat and other satelite operators. Futhermore the initiation of projects to maintain and archive existing information (like geological maps) was an important part. Show less

    • Coördinator reorganisatie
      • Sep 1993 - Sep 1995

A reorganisation was carried out, causing a 60% reduction of the number of employees. This has been done by making a service-oriented organisation from a fragmented product-organisation with a transparent cost-strcucture. Using ITIL (which was new in those times) and an advance graphical asset management system with workflows was essential for the success of the reorganisation. The involved employees were enthousiastic about the changes that have empowered them. The internal marketing of the renewed services has lead to a better understanding of the 'Cost-of-Ownership' of It-services and IT-means, causing large benefits. As a spin-off IT-services and facility management have merged their servies into an integrated service-catalog which radiated to the entire organisation. The 'well - hole harmonisation project' was started to integrate databases from exploration-, production- and drilling-systems that each use their own definitions of a well-hole and therefore cannot be integrated easily. A transitionmatrix and a universal statusword indicating the phase in the lifecycle of a well/hole were developed to enable further integration of 10 odd operational mainframe computersystems systems.Information planning studies on drilling and production systems, on the materials planning system (EMA3000) of NAM and other Shell opco's and a personnel registration harmonisation project have been conducted.
