I Introduced a new phase shifter characterization method that reduced characterization time from weeks to hours and, yet better accuracy; I transferred the characterization from a bulky and very unreliable setup based on an oscilloscope to a very accurate, stable, and faster setup based on Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The complexity of this measurement is due to the Base-band (I/Q) to Ku/Ka-band conversion requiring the VNA to be used in a non-conventional way and with auxiliary external hardware. After the demonstration, the method that I proposed became the preferred one by anyone doing phase shifter characterization within the company in all the subsequent RFIC generations.Contributed to multiple software features for custom RFIC characterization; While spending tons of hours in the Lab I made multiple contributions to improving Satixfy’s custom software enabling easy operation and new features for all the generations of RFICs. I worked from the abstract user interface down to the bit level (register map).I enabled RFIC's bring-up in record time and produced highly regarded technical reports within the company; I helped the organization gather data and compelling reports to successfully close vital work pages and milestones. I delivered the data that are currently loaded on the Phased Array Look-up table for polarization control on the digital beamforming antenna and analogue beamforming on the analogue solution. Satixy has a Paypload in orbit with relies on this data.Exposure and contributions to overall RF system requirements definition, as well as developing system architecture models and configuration control.Once I heard from the CEO, who is unfortunately not with us anymore: "I am impressed with Erick..." I conceptualized a new phased array antenna element for sub-THz (300 GHz) short-distance wireless application with substantial improvement in radiation performance. I started completely from scratch and designed a modular Phased Array antenna prototype based on an elementary patch antenna. My design consisted of a multilayer Benzocyclobutene (BCB) substrate with capacitive coupling tuned to offer complex conjugate matching and architected to enhance radiation performance. Here is one sentence from the consortium: "The phased antenna proposed by INESC introduced some excellent reconfigurability to the system." I designed and tested a microwave resonant cavity (2.4 GHz) for cork stopper humidity level assessment that led to an innovative product line. This resulted in a non-invasive and precise method to assess the quality of cork stoppers, which is today used by one of the largest cork stopper suppliers worldwide. Here is one sentence on the vendor web page: "Equipment for determining accurately, without contact and non-destructively the levels of moisture present in cork stoppers." Designed RF systems and microwave boards for underwater wireless applications. Underwater communication with conventional RF engineering and wireless technologies is somewhat complicated due to the high loss and pure propagation on this medium at high frequencies. To overcome this and enable resilient communication, I designed an Up-Down (RX/TX) converter (2.5 GHz to 100 MHZ) sourced with a Wi-Fi card enabling underwater wireless internet connection with AUVs. Advisory expert on antenna and RF measurement services; With my experience in design and measurements, I was quickly becoming the “go-to” person when technical expertise was required. I helped the organization to secure and successfully deliver multiple contracts for RF design and testing. Show less
