Looking back at my undergrad years, there wasn’t a single instructor that played such a major role in helping me prepare for the professional world. I was a student of his in two courses at Penn State World Campus, and the knowledge I gained from him is still something I reflect on in my career. I have saved projects and assignments from his courses that I look back on and implement the critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving traits he taught us to use. Most instructors will teach you what something is. Eric taught us what something is and how we can use it. Two weeks after starting my role at Republic Services, COVID happened and we were all working remote. With that being my first job out of college, you’d think it would be a struggle. Not only that, but COVID lead to a major project for my team consisting of 3,000+ requests from our customers serviced by third party vendors that I, a new employee, was assigned to handle entirely. That was the moment I reflected back on what I learned from Eric and used it to successfully complete the project and the several projects that were developed due to the uniqueness of it. This included short payments and negative margins all over the place. Thank you for preparing me for that, Eric.

Eric was my professor for two courses at Penn State, Retirement Planning and Introduction to Investments. In both of these courses I learned valuable knowledge, but more importantly I walked away with real-world solutions to help my clients meet their financial goals. Moreover, Eric provided our class with relevant articles and videos that ensured distance would never hamper our ability to learn these, sometimes difficult topics. Finally, Professor Robbins sought to motivate his students and thus provided me with the framework to reach both educational and professional goals that I had set for myself.
