The dramatic decrement in the population of Puerto Rico had been recently confirmed by the US. Census 2020 preliminary results, indicating an 11% decline since 2010. Data Analysis about demographic components such as mortality, fertility, and migration is essential to have a better idea of the actual situation and understand the implications of the interaction of these components for the future population. In this research work, we will study more deeply the Census 2020 data. Also,we will learn about the models for total fertility rate and life expectancy proposed by Raftery that were used by Rosario, Pericchi, and Mattei to generate new population projections. These population projections are very dramatic predicting near 2 million people by 2050. More research in this area is needed to reinforce and justify the projections to impulse public policies that help to reduce the population decrement pace. My role is a research assistant, and my chores include: literature revision, data analysis with R, and evidence reports.

I participated in the Increasing Diversity in Interdisciplinary Big Data to Knowledge internship under the mentoring of PhD. Rafael Irrizary. We worked with a group of students on a graduate level investigation titled "Visualizing the Effects of Climate and GDP on COVID-19 Transmission". In this investigation we worked on Visualizing the Effects of Climate and GDP on COVID-19 utilizing big data research and statistical analysis on R, a coding language. Moreover, in this internship we took a scheduled program in which we were taught introduction classes to biostatistics, programming with R, HDS, epidemiology, and AI.

This investigation job was an opening by the faculty of Social Sciences with the purpose of incentivizing research in the faculty. Under the supervision of PhD. Mayra Vélez, my job was to identify and collect news articles or investigations related to Paradiplomacy in the Caribbean before and after the events of Hurricane María. Lastly, we did a poster reflecting the achievements of our work on the subject for that semester.
