Eric served for 3 years as one of five NXDs who worked with me as Chair at HIAL. He made a great contribution to our Board. Always well prepared, he had excellent attention to detail, asked incisive questions and brought appropriate challenge to the work of the Board. He willing served on committees including Audit and has a very clear understanding of good governance. I was disappointed that he could not continue when he relocated to Europe.
Iain Strachan
I know Eric from his time on the Board of Muirhouse Housing Association, of which I am currently the Chair. MHA is a small community based social landlord and registered charity in the Muirhouse area of Edinburgh, a part of the city that has sadly had high levels of deprivation for many years. Eric made a huge and very positive contribution in his time on the Board, including his very successful tenure as the Chair of our Audit and Risk Sub-Committee. His years of experience in the financial services industry, and wider board and governance experience was especially useful to us during the pandemic and as we came out of it. Eric was also instrumental in driving forward a £9m loan refinancing that was extremely beneficial for us, and helped in us keeping our costs and rents down, to enable us to further support our tenants during a very challenging period for them and the wider Muirhouse community. I would have absolutely no hesitation in strongly recommending Eric for another Board role, and am very happy for people to contact me via LinkedIn if they would like to discuss this at all.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – Bank Mendes Gans (BMG) - ING Group
-
Feb 2010 - Jan 2019
BMG specializes in international cash management services for large multi-nationals with income in excess of 2 billion. I oversee all operations with heavy emphasis on regulatory compliance as BMG operates with sales teams in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. When I assumed leadership of BMG, it was a minor entity within ING. The niche entity subsequently became a significant contributor to ING Group’s commercial banking footprint, one of only 5 strategic products in the group. It became a USP for ING's wholesale banking activity. MY IMPACT ► More than tripled profit before taxes and income since becoming CEO. ► Delivered exponential growth propelling from 10% per annum to 15% per annum Show less
