• Political Director

  • Serve as a bridge between the Laborer’s Union and Iowa state legislature on key legislative issues. Contact and confer with members of legislature and other holders of public office to persuade them to support legislation favorable to the Laborer’s interests • Study proposed legislation to determine possible effect on Laborer’s union • Built a network of contacts within the region that can be brought together when needed to unite on a given issue • Meet with legislators and officials to emphasize supposed weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to union’s interests • Plan and coordinate meetings between members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow officials to respond to membership concerns • Have represented the local organization at state and national meetings, including the union’s International in Washington, D.C.
