The NJ Watershed Ambassadors program is a collaboration between the service aspect of AmeriCorps and the environmental aspect of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Hosted by the Division of Water Quality and Standards, the Watershed Ambassadors program connects local communities to their watersheds through education/outreach, stewardship, and research.Accomplishments: Gave over 60 environmental presentations to schools and the public to raise awareness on water-related issues.Conducted over 40 biological and visual assessments on freshwater streams for the NJ DEP.Organized environmental stewardship events to promote community involvement. These events included planting hundreds of trees, removing several tons of trash and invasive species, building rain barrels, and restoring rain gardens.Trained and managed dozens of volunteers on water quality research and green infrastructure.Gathered over 500 volunteer hours from groups and individuals across the state.Attended municipal meetings to form connections between non-profits and governments.
