While working here, I continued to build my teamwork abilities as well as my social skills. Working in a grocery store you tend to run into many different types of people. People always told me that they were glad to have me around and that I am an extremely approachable person. This experience was not in my direct field of study, but experience in the work place is a must to grow as an individual. This was my first workplace job. Prior to this I did side work for neighbors and members of the community. I started as a busser, but my ambition pushed me to try serving within my first week. I left this job to head off to college at Purdue University Calumet. This was my first workplace job. Prior to this I did side work for neighbors and members of the community. This course allowed students 4 hours of construction work on a house per day. We built the house from the foundation up and built our knowledge of construction along the way. The house was bought 1 week after construction finished, and seeing the smile on the families face after they moved in was the icing on the cake! This was another elective course that was offered at Kankakee Valley. We went through different welding positions such as: vertical, horizontal, over-head. In addition to the different welding positions, we also covered different types of welding instruments such as: tig, mig, and stick. Finishing up the year, the welding class created a go-cart-type vehicle that exceeded 120 mi/gal! This was another elective course that was offered at Kankakee Valley.
