Eric and I worked together at the GE Oil and Gas Technology Center from November 2015 to November 2017. Eric was a Senior Reservoir Engineer, Technical Manager, and my direct report within the Reservoir Performance group. In this role Eric managed a large research project and contributed to several others. He displayed a very high level of competency in petroleum engineering and project management. He also demonstrated reservoir simulation skills and deep knowledge of petrophysics. Eric is highly professional and well-liked by his team mates and I would happily recommend him to a petroleum engineering position in either research or operations.

As a Sr. Engineer, Business Development Lead, and Project Manager, I oversee and manage projects to improve efficiency and production recovery for Wyoming's oil and gas operators. I am involved with CO2-EOR, bacterial-assisted wellbore cleanup, unconventional reservoir stimulation and completions, numerical simulation to improve reservoir understanding, and optimization of water- and CO2-floods. I currently manage a $14 million, 4-year, 9-institution project to optimize production from emerging tight oil plays in Wyoming's Powder River Basin.

Project Manager of a multi-million dollar effort that included laboratory research, reservoir simulation, facilities design, and well engineering to deliver an optimized solution to clients for enhanced oil recovery in unconventional/tight oil reservoirs. I worked with the external client and team to develop the scope of work and managed the cost, schedule, and contingencies for uncertainties. Subject matter expert on enhanced oil recovery methods and applications. Spearheaded research on unconventional reservoir enhanced oil recovery, steam-assisted gravity drain-age, radio frequency heating, alkaline-surfactant-polymer, and application of machine-learning and physics-based models to automate and optimize oilfield processes. I worked with potential clients to understand and support their production needs. I was responsible for environmental compliance for the team.

Working on the Shell Oil Shale Development Team and Structural Geology and Reservoir Characterization Team, I provided reservoir engineering expertise as part of an integrated team to develop an oil shale resource in Shell’s concession in Jordan and in Colorado and to Shell assets around the world including Shell Kuwait E&P, Ursa Gulf of Mexico asset, Unconventional Potential asset (Mexico). Examples of accomplishments: • Saved company cost of drilling deep water well by evaluating oil in place in undrilled fault block and recommending do not drill. Analysis indicated that fault was not sealing and significant hydrocarbons leaked into adjacent producing block. • Identified sweet spots for future wells by incorporating fracture density, facies changes, production history, etc. into fracture, low-permeability reservoir. • Identified critical reservoir parameters for the development of an unexplored unconventional play based on uncertainty analysis of analog basin. • Supported oil shale development team by providing reservoir engineering and economic evaluation expertise. • Developed a fit-for-purpose numerical model to analyze pressure build-up data from short-duration gas injection tests in very low permeability formations allowing company to correctly interpret build-up data. • Developed analytic heat transfer and mass balance models for in-situ leaching process and fulfilled environmental requirements of state and federal regulators.

I was a Program/Project Manager and Subject Matter Expert on petroleum engineering for the Lab; represented the Lab in external engagements; led teams in the laboratory research and feasibility studies of various energy-related technologies and issues. Project management experience included preparation of statements of work, budgets, tracking of work, reporting/communications. I identified uncertainties and risks and mitigation strategies. I led research programs with industry clients, academia, and governmental entities. I worked with scientists to ensure proper environmental sampling and reporting. Examples of accomplishments: • I brought in over $5 million in external funding through proposal writing, team building, and project execution. • I was the Technical Lead of CO2 sequestration in coal for the Big Sky Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership. I led the Partnership's effort to define the technical and economic capacity and capability of the region to sequester CO2 in coal beds in conjunction with agencies from Montana, Idaho, Washington, and South Dakota, and industry partners. • I led teams to determine economic and technical feasibility of hybrid energy systems and other novel energy-related technologies. Among those was the integration of heat produced from nuclear power with the heat requirement for retorting oil shale (both in situ and ex situ) to produce oil, natural gas, and electricity • I was the Project manager of major research efforts including work on wettability-enhancing chemical amendments, water-alternating-gas methods, low-salinity waterflooding, and microbial enhanced oil recovery. • I represented the Lab at consortia; engaged potential clients to determine needs; and worked with industry, academia, and governmental entities.
