Intern
-
Jan 2015 - Apr 2016
I led the efforts to collect new data to update the city's annual Community Indicators project, which helps to inform its budget process. I researched transition strategies for Southeast Redmond, part of which will transform from light industrial to high density residential over the coming decades. Related to this, I attended the Living Future unConference and helped King County present a session on equity using Southeast Redmond as a template. I researched the issues related to expanding the Overlake Urban Center's boundary to include more of the neighborhood. I also helped to analyze different elements of industrial businesses in Redmond. Along with another intern, we updated project maps from the early 2000s to the present so they line up with the current geodatabase. We cross-checked records to identify which projects have and have not been completed, and this resulted in some site visits. We also studied the proximity of bike/pedestrian projects to transit stops in terms of connectivity. Environmental Pre-Permitting Intern
-
May 2014 - Jun 2014
Spokane International Airport wants to release excess land to the aerospace industry, so the City of Spokane has been working to gain a categorical exclusion through the FAA in order to streamline the environmental permitting process to make the land attractive for private development. I helped research different parts of the categorical exclusion and used that data to create maps, showing things such as airfield overlay zones, prime farmland soil, and zoning. I attended meetings and took notes at meetings focusing both on how development would impact the airport and air force base, along with strategizing how best to offset future traffic impacts. I also edited and proofread reports related to these planning issues. Show less

Parking Data Collection Intern
-
Mar 2013 - Jun 2013
Every few years, the PSRC conducts a survey of all the off-street parking in various Puget Sound downtown. I and five other interns visited these business districts and inventoried parking, ranging from parking capacity and morning/afternoon parking occupancy to pricing and whether or not bike storage was available. We compiled this data into an Access database and created GIS maps from the results. The agency published a report of the data Fall 2013.
