I have a couple biases as a senior leader. The first is intelligence. I insist on hiring people who are really, really smart. The second is EQ, or emotional intelligence. In the first scenario, Eric proved within minutes to not only be capable of asking the hard questions but asking them in a way that made the conversation safe and productive for the client. He consistently made his leader and I better by the way he engaged on our behalf with the clients. Proactively. Selflessly. Intelligently and with direction. If I consumed services in a vertical market where Eric is a service provider, he's got a huge leg up on winning / earning my business, because he's smart, creative, focused, patient and extraordinarily trustworthy.
