Parliamentary Assistant
-
Oct 2011 - Apr 2016
Parliamentary Assistant to Catherine Murphy TD, Member of Parliament for Kildare North. Duties and responsibilities lie in the following main areas: Legislative Research and Development: I researched and forensically analysed Government and Private bills before the House and advise Deputy Murphy to assist in the development of her position as an Opposition Member. I have authored full pieces of legislation on a wide variety of policy areas, and routinely composed draft amendments to Government legislation during passage through Dáil Éireann. Public Interest Investigations: I contributed heavily to Deputy Murphy’s public interest investigations and oversaw and composed all of her parliamentary questions and FOI requests. Parliamentary Committees: I advised Deputy Murphy in her work as a member of the Joint Oireachtas Environment Committee, covering scrutiny of EU legislation, Statutory Instruments, and detailed examination of policy. In particular I supported Deputy Murphy in her role as lead member during extensive hearings on the Government’s draft Climate legislation. Policy output: I composed policy and position papers and project managed Deputy Murphy's collaborative outputs with other Deputies and Senators. I authored policies on Environment, Energy, Climate, Transport, Housing, Copyright and Agriculture in the Social Democrats’ 2016 General Election Manifesto. Speechwriting: I assisted Deputy Murphy in composing parliamentary speeches on proposed legislation, with special focus on communicating Deputy Murphy's considered position to both the House and the wider public. Co Founder
-
Mar 2014 - May 2015
#VoteWithUs made an important contribution to the recent success of the equal marriage referendum in Ireland. Our campaign sought to give a voice to members of the public who might not otherwise be heard. By publishing voters' videos in which they expressed their stories, hopes and compelling, personal perspectives, the #VoteWithUs campaign helped to create a positive ripple beyond the campaign participants, which ultimately helped the referendum to pass. As a co-founder and joint coordinator, I was extremely proud to help devise and develop this campaign. Show less
