As a managing attorney for the Diocesan, I have the opportunity to lead, provide legal advice and litigation and mentor caseworkers. No two days in this position are the same. I specifically represent unaccompanied children, migrants. This is different than any other role I have served in and providing direct service that offers such humanitarian impact is gratifying. I coordinate with a shelter that provides service for minors without immigration status and ensure the children’s rights are preserved. This includes the right to meals, contact with parents and an attorney, education, medical needs and acceptable human living conditions and care. I also represent the children in immigration court and ensure that they receive the best legal services possible. My leadership includes ensuring that all media interaction is conducted in a proper manner to represent DMRS. We serve together as a team. Our collaboration includes brainstorming to offer better service or efficiency, coordinating calendars, scheduling meetings, and constantly making improvements. Overall, working for such a vulnerable population has its challenges, but we do everything in our power to give them the best representation. Show less

It is an honor to serve El Paso as a municipal judge. I started in this role as an on-call Associate Judge filling in when necessary. Each time I served I realized that I had the temperament required for this role. Now, as an elected Municipal Judge, I handle the class C docket to include traffic, animal, health, and city ordinance violations. I run my courtroom in English and Spanish, using professional interpreters only when an adversarial hearing is required. I also sign off on search, arrest and blood warrants and determine if probable cause for arrest exists. I have built a positive reputation over the past seven years. I run a highly efficient court, highlighting respect and accountability. In addition, I hold attorneys to the same high standards I do defendants. I always take the time to talk to my staff and learn from them. One prime example is the role the clerk plays. I can always come to her at the beginning of the day and receive a quick brief on what to expect for the upcoming dockets. The role she plays in preparing me for the work ahead is invaluable. I always make it a point to familiarize myself with all resources available in any position. I pride myself in being fair. I am not perfect, nor do I get it right 100 percent of the time, but I am always willing to learn. Show less

Working for Jaime Alvarado’s firm was a very rewarding experience. We served a wide range of clients because Alvarado’s practice covers so many areas of law. At any given time we could have several open cases in family, immigration, criminal, personal injury, and other areas of law. I served with a very hands on approach and conducted much client service in this role. This included answering inquiries from prospective clients, conducting client intake, and all other client communications. During this time, I was trusted by Alvarado in his absence to direct operations to include making executive decisions, leading the staff while in his absence. I played a pivotal role in increasing clientele intake by adding other areas of law to the practice that included debt collection, criminal defense, and small claims defense services. Show less

After Joseph (Sib) Abraham, passed away I found myself lacking both his friendship and mentorship. I had to quickly look for a new position. To solve this problem, I began taking on court appointed cases and handling criminal law exclusively. I quickly had to learn business management as a solo practitioner. I excelled at academic advising at Tarrant County College. I served my clients in English and Spanish, provided advising to students and presentations to prospective students and parents. Because of my bilingual skills I was selected to perform as the financial aid spokesperson to communicate crucial information in English and Spanish. My supervisors also requested my help in developing a Spanish speaking advising program. As with any other role I have worked, I always strived to reach organizational goals. I exceeded expectations by advising and counseling the top number of students on a monthly basis. Show less

My greatest accomplishment in this role was helping students excel. Aside from teaching the daily curriculum, communicating with parents and classroom management, I played a vital role in bringing up the standardized testing scores. My students went from a 72% passing rate to 84%. I collaborated with other teachers to implement strategies that helped the students learn and retain the curriculum.
