At Friends of Medyka, we support refugees from Ukraine crossing the Polish-Ukrainian. We recruit volunteers who speak Polish, Russian, Ukrainian and/or English and we match them with the local need for volunteers at the border. Once on the ground, our volunteers serve as interpreters and assist refugees with their needs (internet connection, transportation, childcare, etc.). I took part in the creation of a city laboratory in Bologna, Italy, called Work-Lab. The lab collaborates with local institutions and refugees’ centers and it is run by volunteers who are involved in weekly face-to-face activities with the lab’s guests. Activities include helping them to map their skills and abilities (this activity involved a great amount of linguistic and cultural-based translation) and to draft their personal resumes and CVs. The laboratory also produced a short written ethnography on efficient models of hospitality for refugees in the territory of Bologna, based on the experience gained by lab members. https://www.worklabonline.com/chi-siamo

I led the organisation of monthly events such as meetings and conferences to raise awareness about different social and environmental issues among my peers. Some keynote speakers included Ruben Lagattolla, documentary filmmaker and author of a reportage of the Syrian conflict, and Andrej Mironov, a journalist and Amnesty International volunteer who tragically died in Ukraine. I led the organisation of monthly events such as meetings and conferences to raise awareness about different social and environmental issues among my peers.
