  First-Year Mentor is a newly revised Orientation Leader position at Centre College. As a First-Year Mentor, I was the mentor of 7 college first-year students with whom I met with on a weekly basis to examine their well-being and adaptation to their new environment. In addition to working with the students one-on-one, I aided in instructing a college prep class to 14+ college first-year students. In this position I helped students manage their time, build confidence, and learn about the resources available on campus for their mental well-being, their study habits, and their career-interests. I was also responsible for co-leading discussions with the students and I consistently challenged them to think critically in class. A goal that I created for myself during this position was to create a welcoming environment where the students felt safe, respected, and heard; additionally, I encouraged students to maintain a positive attitude and adopt a growth mindset.
