Since joining beer and associates I have been working as an architectural technician. I am working on a wide variety of projects. I use Autodesk Revit for design of the projects that I am working on. Our work is multi-disciplined. I have mainly been working in preparation of drawings for abattoirs and meat processing plants. This work starts off with analyzing the client’s requirements with sketch design before moving onto preparing drawings for planning permission, such as Site Layout, Plans and Elevations. This work involves the strategic planning and building design layout of the proposed building. I have also in recent weeks began to work on the design and fit out of air hangars for the maintenance and repair of aircraft. Show less

I worked on three different types of design in Bo Steel. The main work was in the agriculture sector. I was involved in the design of items such as calving gates, cattle crushes, cattle pens, creep gates, anti-backing bars, hayracks, gates, and feed barriers. All jobs were one off jobs and all products were made to the size of the client’s requirements. I firstly worked with the client until the products were approved, then I produced fabrication drawings for the fabricators in the workshop. The second part of the company’s work is the design and manufacture of bespoke entrance gates for houses. My role here involved meeting the client. Showing them the range of products for gates. Then measuring up the entrance and designing gates, then I worked on the product until it was approved by the client. After this I began producing fabrication drawings for the fabricators in the workshop. The last part of the company’s work was structural steel. The structural steel projects which varied from small tonnage to 50 tonnes. The majority of it was for abattoirs and meat processing plants. For all these projects I used Solidworks for the design of the projects. During the approval process I worked closely with the structural engineer, architect, and the main contractor until drawings were approved. Once approved I was responsible for ordering the steel liaising with the fabricators in the workshop to ensure the product is fabricated. Show less

During my time at Oranmore precast I spent time detailing hollowcore slabs with depths ranging from 150mm up to 500mm. And also detailing hollowcore stairs. During the process I work closely with the design team in Oranmore Precast to deliver our product for the client. I liaise with the Client, Architect and Engineer until approval for both the hollowcore stairs and slabs is gained. During my time with Oranmore precast I worked as a detailer. The design office was in Galway and the plant is in Norfolk in England. I mainly used Floor CAD to design precast hollowcore floors for a range of different buildings. Such as apartment blocks, one off houses and new retail units. The floor slabs ranged from depths of 150mm to 500mm. I also deigned precast stairs. The stairs varied from single flight stairs up to 20 flights. During the design process I liaised closely with client, architect and engineer until full approval was granted. I also worked on bespoke solid slabs for large scale projects. Slabs could have as many as 40 cast in items. All these cast ins would be put in to speed up the process on site. I would work with the structural engineer and the rest of the design team when designing the slabs. Show less

I have worked on a wide range of projects, such as structural steel projects which vary from small tonnage (less than a tonne for a house, to large industrial warehouses ranging from 10 tonne to 100 tonne). I also worked on stainless steel projects. The stainless projects varied from internal projects such as handrails for stairs for new schools and factories. To external projects such as sculptures for supermarkets. All drawings were done on StruCad. Once the job is drawn and had approval I was responsible for l liaising with the fabricators in the work shop to ensure the product was fabricated, and finally I was responsible for the logistics of getting the product to site. With the wide range of machinery at the workshop I am also responsible for the nesting of parts for the laser machine, the waterjet and plasma machine. The material for nesting ranges from 1mm to 50mm on the three machines, cutting materials sure as mild steel, stainless steel, nylon, copper, aluminium and hardox. Show less

During my time with Ryan and Associates, the company were in the process of setting up their own building regulations app. One for the Irish market and one for the UK market. I worked on the drawings for this app. The drawings were all house details. The app was aimed at builders so they could check on the app while on site to make sure they were following the correct detail on site. Once the drawing were complete they were sent onto the web designer. I was also responsible for drawing up plans for access routes for Fire Safety Certificates and Disability Certificates. Show less

In 2010 I decided to set up my own business as a hurl maker I set up the entire company from scratch including procuring the machinery need to manufacture the hurls. I marketed the hurls myself and I set up my own website, Facebook page, YouTube channel where I shared videos of myself making hurls, the shapes I was making and the prices of my hurls. I sold the hurls to local GAA clubs, national schools and private individuals. I set up a business partnership with Handcraft Hurley’s (featured on Dragons den). In this partnership, I manufactured hurls which where advertised on their website, in their shop and on their mobile shop. Show less
