Tutor for Grades 3-12

Aug 2018 - Present
Consistently tutor multiple IB subjects, along with math and English for elementary students. 100% of student’s test scores have increased, but more importantly, their confidence has grown. Tutoring has also allowed me to improve my creative thinking when personalizing my teaching style to match individual students; patience for explanations; and business management skills including communication with students and parents. I love tutoring because it allows me to help students understand challenging concepts and achieve the “aha” moment.

Created my own handmade jewelry business: Rings & Things. In Nashville, focused on custom orders and Temple fundraisers. In Japan, my school had a Design Store Club allowing me to expand my line and sell at school events. I was the top seller at all sales. 30% of profits are donated to environmental and social service charities. Having my own business has improved my planning and communication skills for both designing and selling products. Created my own handmade jewelry business: Rings & Things. Scuba Diving Guide
-
Jun 2020 - Jul 2021
Independently lead divers and help them improve their skills while keeping safety a focus. To become a dive guide, I completed additional scuba diving and CPR certifications. Also, this past summer I led a conservation initiative adding a new data collection site in Usami, Japan. When I’m not guiding a group of divers, you can find me with a camera documenting Usami or videoing divers for assessment of their skills. Carolina Away Student Advisory Committee
-
Sep 2020 - Jun 2021
Selected for this position, I work with a small group of remote students proposing ideas for improving Carolina Away, both academically and socially. Through meetings with Dean Rudi Colloredo-Mansfeld, we improved the remote registration process by adding instruction modes and class features to help students understand any time zone impact on their schedule. As a US citizen living abroad, I fall into a unique category allowing me to advocate for this group.
