Being on placement at SWNS news agency allowed me to be active with different departments that deal with different elements of processing news stories. At SWNS, the departments I was aware of and had to work closely with were the photography and video team, editing team, features team and Talk to the Press/Share your story team. Working as a journalist online enabled me to practice consistent communication. I reached out to individuals when I was chasing a story, following up on press releases and information regarding a story. I contacted people and organisations via phone, email and on social media for interviews and quotes. There were other aspects like contracts I got a sufficient understanding of. My main position was at the news desk. There was technical information I needed to remember when using the Rocks system for editing and writing a story. Including headlines, strap lines, shout codes and taxonomies for the news stories created was valuable to know. My supervising journalist and the manager gave me such detailed information when writing copy for publications. Within the month, I successfully wrote to an industry standard and enjoyed the diverse work nature of investigative journalism. The overall wide selection of stories received showed me that news is an industry of surprises. Here are stories I was involved in: https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/food/1660935/sourdough-bakery-war-the-real-bread-campaign-retailers https://www.londonworld.com/education/results-day-2022-woman-who-left-school-at-16-with-no-qualifications-40-years-ago-passes-her-gcses-3819605 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11192837/amp/Love-Islands-Tasha-Ghouri-Andrew-Le-Page-loved-display.html?ico=amp_dontMiss Show less

As a tutor I play a vital part in championing students' academic success. I have a good grasp of the UK curriculum and with this knowledge provide essential sessions for students, where I go through Maths and English questions with them, encouraging them to solve problems, read, write and articulate themselves. With the help of my team, sessions run smoothly on our online learning environment with lessons that ask them key questions and allow them to think outside of the box! These children are 4-14 years old. My aim is for the children to achieve the best possible grades and also for them to apply themselves in the real world, using all the necessary information they learn with us at Explore! Glad to influence the upcoming generations of Fearless Learners Show less

Being a teaching assistant / SEND support staff for AXCIS is very skill-boosting. I have worked in many schools and care settings in London boroughs, learning Makaton/British Sign Language as I go. Supporting vulnerable children, adults and individuals with additional needs has been a super way for me to give back to society. As a sibling carer myself, I learn that patience is key. Teachers and support staff are vital people in our world. This job has been extraordinarily helpful. I now see things from new perspectives and know what it means to be inclusive and compassionate Show less

      • Aug 2019 - Aug 2019

I had the opportunity of doing a short work experience job at Hyde Park: The Lookout Centre, which was offered to me by Access Aspiration, they provide work experience to young people within the UK. Here I had these responsibilities: following a timetable to ensure our holiday workshops started and finished promptly, working with trained education staff who had numerous qualifications in areas such as science to deliver high quality activities. Activities included: pond-dipping, arts and crafts, themed nature walks, colouring, water play, willow weaving, insect treasure hunt and story time Show less
