When I joined Alchemist in June 2020, I found to my relief that Emma was managing the CalFresh at Farmers' Markets and Market Match program with great skill. It is such a gift to join an organization and find that its programs are led by competent, intelligent, compassionate managers. Emma is a resourceful and responsible manager. I have learned that I can simply depend on her program running well. She is not afraid to ask for help or a listening ear when working through a new challenge, but she is adept at solving problems on her own, as well. She oversees a large number of part-time staff and volunteers and maintains good rapport with them and shows great maturity in responding to individual personal needs and issues. Emma works directly with diverse partners (other non-profits, farmers' market operators, farmers' market vendors, etc.) and clearly has earned a good reputation among them. While much of her work keeps her tied to day-to-day operational needs, Emma demonstrates strong visionary leadership and develops realistic but aggressive organizational goals. I count it as good fortune and an honor to work with her.
