Investigating the role of retrotransposons in chronic pain. This project aims to assess the impact of mobile genetic elements (retrotransposons) on gene regulation in sensory neurones. We hope to explain some of the variation seen in patients suffering from chronic pain e.g. onset, sensitivity and response to drugs using molecular techniques to explore the genetic variation generated by retrotransposons.
