I plan and teach these individual lessons which cover a wide range of issue that are affecting the student both in and out of school.A big part of my role at the PRU is behaviour management both in the classroom and in the centre as a whole.I have built positive relationships with students, teachers and outside agencies.

    • Cover Supervisor
      • Jan 2008 - Jul 2009

I worked as a Cover Supervisor in this secondary school. The work involved covering lesson when a teacher was unwell or unable to teach the lesson for various reasons such as meetings and appointments. In the lessons, I was able to support students in small groups and also on an individual basis – some of the students had English as a second language. I have also been able to teach Child Development lessons for years 9, 10 and 11 as the teacher was on long term sick. I enjoyed teaching the Child Development lessons, as I was able to plan the lessons as well as teach them. The job was challenging as the student exhibited different behaviour to me than they would to their normal teacher. The behaviour is normally quite easy to deal with and the students listened to me and respected the way I worked with them. I also had a Year 11 mentoring group of 15 students. I saw these students individually once every term or more if they needed. I was always open and friendly towards the students and they felt they could approach me with school and home based issues.

I have also communicated with outside agencies such as Social Services, Foster Carers/Parents and the Police and Youth Justice System. The work involved looking after boys aged 8 to 16.
