I am the Admin Assistant to the Assistant Directors and Director of Occupational Therapy at Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service. I work two days a week and have a number of important tasks to complete in order to make the directors' lives more easier. I complete staff contracts and follow up with Payroll any issues or queries they have. This process is long and tedious, and is often required to be completed within a short timeframe. I also create and modify Excel Spreadsheets which reflect rostering and budget information. It is also my duty to analyse a number of reports and materials to find where budget errors have been made and where the department's expenditures can be reduced. I put these analyses into Excel Spreadsheets for the directors to view the data in a convenient way. Furthermore, I also handle some aspects of the department's invoicing, organise and book meetings and events, and act as a point of contact for administration issues the occupational therapists might have. In the past I have also amended and formatted workplace improvement frameworks, assist in the recruitment process for the department and handle the commencement of new staff members. My role in this department is often stressful and requires complex problem-solving skills, however, I always get the job done and have acquired many new skills since working in this position. I am confident to independently handle most issues thrown my way and thoroughly enjoy carrying out my duties as an Admin Officer. Show less

I completed my PLT placement at Ashkan Tai Lawyers. My work involved appearing in court, meeting with clients, drafting legal documents and communicating with professional colleagues. I can competently appear in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts, and feel confident when drafting affidavits and submissions to prosecutions. I can read through briefs of evidence and determine whether there are any defences available to clients or whether there are any grounds to request a charge be discontinued. I can complete administrative tasks such as letters to clients, scheduling and filing. I have learned how to prepare for pleas and have been contributing to making applications for cross-examination of witnesses at committal hearings. Show less

My position as Law Clerk at Brooke Winter Solicitors has taught me vast amounts about the legal profession, and has given me a particularly positive insight into the role of a criminal solicitor. I regularly appear in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of Queensland across various locations such as Southport, Beenleigh and Brisbane. I have worked on criminal, domestic violence, traffic and family matters, which has expanded my legal knowledge significantly. I particularly enjoy working on criminal and family matters, including drafting documents like submissions to prosecution and affidavits for parenting disputes. A large part of my role at Brooke Winter Solicitors involves engaging with clients. I have visited clients in prison and conferenced with them in the office. I obtain their antecedents to assist with their sentence or Court applications. Every client is different, which has shown me a lot about people and the way they communicate. It is important to treat every client based on their personal situation, and not place them into a box, like so many people do. A client going through family law proceedings requires a different approach than a client who is charged with a criminal offence. This experience has been incredible as I have learned so much about working in the legal profession. I am looking forward to improving my legal skills and tackling whatever challenges are thrown my way in the future. Show less

I was very fortunate to work as an intern at the Southport Courthouse for one day a week for 8 weeks. I attended the Courthouse every Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm and was exposed to a wide variety of situations. I spent every morning observing the court proceedings in various courts including the Magistrates Court, the Arrest Court, the Domestic Violence Court and the District Court. During my time in court I sat through two rape trials, a number of sentences including a contested sentence, as well as the monotonous processes in court such as trial reviews and committal hearings. I was also fortunate enough to attend Judge Wall's Valedictory, an event which only occurs when a Court's Chief Judge retires. My goal in undertaking this experience was to observe the lawyers in court and learn about the different procedures and matters which are heard in court. I found each experience extremely fascinating and have made some industry connections as a result. I feel even more focused on and driven to achieving my ultimate goal of becoming a Barrister or Crown Prosecutor, and am searching for further experience to become one step closer. In addition to observing in Court, I worked primarily in the Domestic Violence Registry, as well as undertaking front counter duties and helping out in the Criminal Registry. During my time in the DV Registry I completed general duties including filing and preparing for the following week's Court proceedings. Show less

During my time at Pacific Magazines, I was required to complete a number of tasks, including researching various topics, accompanying other staff members to special events, typing interview transcripts and writing my own articles (which were published online). I worked for 'Total Girl' magazine and learned a lot about how a magazine company runs. It is all about including the juiciest, most important information and selling it in the way which is most appropriate for the target audience. My creativity and originality were tested, and my professionalism demonstrated in taking on a corporate role working from 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Show less

When working at Subway (both Nerang and Carrara stores), it was my responsibility to provide good customer service and aesthetically pleasing, quality food, as well as maintain cleanliness in the store and prepare for rush times accordingly. This included handling fresh vegetables, baking bread from scratch and baking cookies. I also counted stock and closed the register at night time, which involved counting the money, safely putting it away and ensuring no stock was missing.
