Emma Haney completed her practicum in the Special Collections Division at the Akron-Summit County Public Library while fullfilling credits for her Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University. Our Special Collections Division represents the research areas of genealogy and local history, archival collections and digitization of historic materials. Emma brought great experience to our division because she had already been working in libraries and she was enthusiastic and quite knowledgeable about genealogical and archival research. Emma has excellent analytical skills and can quickly assess the resources needed in a variety research challenges. Emma is also very quick to learn and understand standards and procedures. During her practicum she gained experience in interpreting and digitizing historic materials and using our CONTENTdm digital platform. Emma is curious, intelligent, and very conscientious. She has the ideal combination of being able to focus on tasks with specific direction, but can also adjust her skills when required for more general assistance. For example, she can be directed to complete a highly detailed task such as entering metadata or completing a particular project, but she can just as swiftly serve the public and attend to any unexpected situations that come her way. Emma is eager, diligent, technologically savvy, multi-talented, and a fast learner. Any place that hires her will be very lucky to have her on staff.
