Also, I am completing an individual research project grounded in public records work, in addition to supporting daily research needs.   I pitched, researched and pre-reported for a grant to examine the impact of school desegregation efforts on youth in Denmark. For this, I cultivated a deep source base of educators, students, researchers, activists and non-profit leaders both on-the-ground and virtually as needs changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This fellowship resulted in the publishing of a 3,000 word story for The Hechinger Report and PBS NewsHour, as well as a field note, providing transparency into the behind-the-scenes of my reporting.

  I reported for Source Media (Richland Source, Ashland Source, Knox Pages) through Report for America, an initiative of The GroundTruth Project that places journalists in local newsrooms across the United States to report on under-covered issues and communities. In addition to my work with my newsroom, I attended monthly trainings, received mentorship and volunteered weekly in a high school class to teach them about journalism.   I reported, researched and edited The Collegian's ongoing investigative work for the Poynter Institute's College Media Project. The Collegian's multimedia, interactive project, titled the Westham Project, investigates documentary evidence of a burial ground of enslaved people on University of Richmond's campus as well as the ways institutional racism has affected and continues to affect Black students, faculty, staff and community members at UR.
