    • Girls Camp Coordinator (Youth Development Professional)
      • Jun 2014 - Nov 2019

I began working at Miniwanca in June of 2014 as an Leader In Training. This position offered opportunities to be engaged and involved with campers that varied day-by-day. I spent time with all three age-groups, 7-10 year olds (Pipers), 11-14 year olds (Juniors), and 15-17 year olds (Seniors). I helped run the wood-shop interest group, offered support for cabin leaders and made myself available for a special mission at any moment. The Leader In Training program focuses on building up young people who just graduated high school and molding them into successful Youth Development Professionals. As a Cabin Leader in 2015, I worked specifically with the youngest age-group of campers: 7-10 year olds or Pipers. I lived in a cabin with about five to six pre-teens; we woke up together, got dressed and ready for the day, ate all of our meals together and closed out our days as a cabin group. Not only was I responsible for the physical and emotional health and well-being of these campers, I encouraged and developed leadership skills, moral responsibility, and positive decision making within each of my campers. In June of 2016, I began working as an age-group Coordinator for the Piper age-group (7-10 year olds). This position includes programming for large group activities that boost team building, collaborative problem solving, positive community building, and personal growth & development within a larger community, as well as overseeing Cabin Leaders. Having worked as a Cabin Leader last year really helped me support my Cabin Leaders this year. Our Piper community was very large this year and I coordinated and coached my Leaders through every situation from homesickness to cabin conflicts to alleviating spider anxiety and so much more. I specifically enjoyed being able to shape programming to what I found worked with my cabin groups last year, as well as facilitating large group activities. Show less

As a Site Facilitator at Adventure Club I primarily create a safe and positive space for participants to continue to learn and grow before and after school hours. I implement Adventure Club curriculum and experiential learning to create a fun, educational environment. I encourage positive behavior management and set an example for participants and staff. I manage administrative duties outside of my time with kids. This is where I coordinate schedules, meetings and paperwork with staff.
