This two week experience was part of my masters degree, and allowed me to use what I had been learning in a practical situation. I made box lists of the collection, created the hierarchy and decided which elements of ISAD(G) needed to be included. I spoke with the archivist about and all the decisions I made and was able to justify my reasons very well. At the end of the placement I had an assignment to create the catalogue using EAD. University Work Placement module. I took this placement in order to compare it to my other placement, as I felt the academic and public libraries would be very different environment and both relavent to work in archives. This is due to the aspect of customer service, which I gained from both placements, and how each of the libraries cater to a different group that an archive would also have as it's customers. My tasks were: shelving, customer service, acquisitions and cataloguing. University Work Placement module, during which I explored the industry of Libraries and Information Management because I was considering it as a career opportunity for myself. During my time here I decided to take a different path. I spent a day in their local studies section and made the choice to begin to explore archives as a career instead. My tasks here included shelving books, assisting with cataloguing a collection and customer service.
