Cimo de Vila Celorico De Basto, Braga, Portugal - Joined a self-sustainable commune of highly spirited individuals at Cimo de Vila, a 6 hectare, certified organic & sustainable farm in the middle of Barroso and Marão Mountain ranges. - Participated in various farm tasks like: digging garden beds, planting, weeding, watering, mulching, working in the greenhouse, compost making, picked flowers, clearing land, preparation for market day, cooking unconventional yet edible plants to distilling lavender and rosemary for essential oils. -Methodologies included: Biological pest control, composting/vermicomposting, crop rotation, ecological farming, green manure, and mulching (without chemicals or pesticides.) Quinta da Fornalha Castro Marim, Faro, Portual - Volunteered for 40 hours a week at Quinta da Fornalha harvesting hundreds of black and white figs, categorized, and weighed them for shipment to Spain and France for the auction; additionally, learned to turn the "ugly" figs into jams and truffles. - Attended to the herb, vegetable and fruit gardens all around the farm in order to assure the plant's health and farm's self-sufficiency. - Worked closely with eco-tourists and environmental enthusiasts to foster an environment built for education, empowerment, sustainability and green living. -Successfully completed a 2-year Peace Corps service in Mokgomane, a rural village in southeastern Botswana as a HIV/AIDS Capacity Building Volunteer. - Effectively wrote and successfully received and managed a grant for $2,500.00 from the United States Ambassador's Special Self-Help Fund for the development and implementation of a play space to assist in the mental, emotional, physical and social growth of over 180+ primary school students. - Assisted in writing a PEPFAR small grant and was awarded $658.00 to host a GLOW (Girls and Guys Leading Our World ) Camp which provided 45 youth the opportunity to explore, reflect and discuss in a safe space about various life skills that included: goal setting, decision making, self-empowerment/self-esteem, sexual and reproductive health, abuse, etc.; life skills that gave our students tools to protect themselves while simultaneously lowering their risk of spreading HIV. - Facilitated life skills lessons through Grassroot Soccer-a grassroots initiative that uses soccer to educate, empower, and mobilize youth to live healthily and inspire them to become leaders in their communities, and PACT (Peer Approach to Counseling Teens) Club. - Organized the library, collected books and mobilized teachers and students to utilize the library to the fullest potential in the hopes of strengthening the student's literacy skills. -Trained and certified by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, for HIV/HCV Rapid Testing: Risk Adjusted Counseling and Referrals. -Provided client-based care for 20-40 hour work week, with more than 200 clients within the Syringe Exchange/Access Program, food bank, case management, HIV/Hepatitis C(HCV) testing and counseling. -Facilitated one-on-one harm reduction sessions, HIV/HCV testing and pre and post counselling, material assembly, research, grant writing, event outreach, HIV/HCV 101 presentations, food bank organization, assist clients via phone and in the reception area in order to advance the health equity and justice of our clients. -Based on various assessment, monitoring and evaluation tools, we were able to measure our client’s behaviour that put them at higher risk for contracting HIV and other STI’s thus referring them to various services and programs like PrEP, PEP, mental health services, domestic violence and homeless shelters and case management. -Independently advocated for and with people living with HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ+ community, and people experiencing homelessness through rhetoric and action, facilitated dialogue surrounding healthy sexual relationships, behavior change and HIV/HCV and other STI prevention strategies, linkage to care and education thus becoming proficient in meeting the evolving needs of clients. -Created a first of its kind organizational health services outpatient brochure to link harm reduction and case management clients to hundreds of dental, medical, and mental health resources.
