SR 32 Over White River Bridge Replacement (MBI, Indianapolis). Bridge Engineer. Michael Baker completed the design of the replacement structure on SR 32 over the White River near Winchester, IN in the Greenfield district. Michael Baker worked with INDOT to revise the structure type to a single span steel girder structure, eliminating the need for piers supported on drilled shafts due to scour conditions. Specific responsibilities include the design and detailing of all primary and secondary load carrying members for the 131' single span steel girder bridge. The project was completed on an accelerated schedule to accommodate an early letting.INDOT Complex Load Ratings (MBI, Indianapolis). Bridge Engineer. Responsible for modeling and checking of complex structures for INDOTs load rating program. Served as the main load rating engineer for I-65 over SR 46, a signature basket-handle tied arch bridge near Columbus, IN. Midas was used to model the complex structure which includes longitudinal and transverse post-tensioning in the deck, post-tensioned floorbeams, and post-tensioned barriers. Oversaw and assisted with the creation of unique capacity sheets to rate all elements of the structure. Also worked closely with INDOT to evaluate the hanger capacity after deterioration on the hangers was identified during recent rehabilitation work on the structure. Show less

Research focused on utilizing artificial neural networks to predict concrete bridge deck deterioration based on historical inspection records available in the National Bridge Inventory database. The developed networks were successfully implemented into a Bridge Management System. The research was fully funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
