The Global Education Teacher prepares students to be globally aware citizens through a holistic approach to world geography, language and culture. Recognizing Spanish as the most commonly taught second language in the United States, students are exposed to the language through songs, games and media in the Lower School. Upper school students build on their Spanish base with organized curriculum programs, combining vocabulary and basic grammar rules, as well as cultural understanding. Second language education sets the foundation for promoting a global perspective. Students deepen their understanding of critical international issues and globalization, building cross cultural awareness. The teacher collaborates as a faculty team member to design units with the express purpose of using Project Based Learning, infused with 21st century skills, local and international service learning, and Common Core Standards, to create solutions for a more sustainable, equitable, peaceful, and culturally-aware world community. In June of 2016 Emily took on a more substantial role in the organization as the Director of Education and Youth Leadership, responsible for reinforcing the organization's passion for supporting youth in the United States and Belize, designing curriculum, building relationships, and developing international educational programs for youth, families, and professionals. Emily is a global educator who received a degree in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership from BYU in 1998. Partners believes that youth are powerful agents of change, actively working together to find solutions to present-day problems in order to create a better future. Their talents and abilities must be nurtured and reinforced as they become mature and influential adult leaders who will build new opportunities for new generations. Partners' programs provide youth with the necessary tools and resources they need to realize their potential as leaders, to help them transcend barriers and to empower them to make a difference through their actions and ideas. Partners currently implements the Youth Ambassador Program, which is a US State Department sponsored cultural exchange program that brings together youth from diverse communities across the Americas, ages 15-18, to build understanding among countries, increase leadership skills, and prepare them to be positive agents of change through volunteer service. They engage with local government and civic organizations, build relationships with host families and youth, and participate in skills-based trainings that enable and empower them to mobilize their communities towards positive change.
