  Through an application process I was chosen to travel to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to teach at a month-long English immersion camp focusing on non-violent communication. My Bosnian co-teacher and I developed lesson plans and led our own class of 10 and 11-year olds. We made topics as complex as ethnocentrism, sexism, and human rights accessible to children through music, art, games, and group discussion. After returning from Sarajevo I served as a Teaching Assistant for the preparatory course for the next summer's participants. I worked with the professor to update our syllabus and handbook to reflect the country's contemporary cultural expectations and political situation, as well as to focus more on methods for teaching English as a second language. I would read project documents from organizations like the World Bank, sifting through large amounts of information containing technical language, in order to find locations and gain an understanding of the project so I could write a condensed description for use by other researchers. I also arbitrated other geocoders' projects, reading back through documents and doing additional research to determine the correct location to code if there were disputes. Show less

  BotB performs two shows a year, one during the winter and one during the summer as part of the Capital Fringe Festival. I served as our Fringe Festival show's logistical coordinator and PR representative, communicating with local media outlets to publicize our summer show. I ran every rehearsal with the director and provided feedback, mediated disagreements among other cast members, and streamlined everyone's schedules.
