Myself and three of my peers were selected as winners of the International Policy Ideas Challenge in August 2020. Over the course of six months, we developed a policy brief on Canada's role in outer space, with a focus on the environmental impacts of outer space exploration. My group and I worked closely with a Global Affairs mentor and consulted various stakeholders in the field to develop concrete solutions for Canadian space policy issues. Supported advocacy campaigns, specifically #StandAsMyWitness, by researching detained human rights defenders, recording their stories, and updating the online campaign page to call for their release. Coordinated with the CIVICUS Monitor, which reports on the level of civic freedom within any given country, in the production of research papers, articles, and briefs. Created graphics, timelines, and media pieces that translate CIVICUS research into digestible, visual content. Over the course of ten months, I developed a policy framework focusing on the governance of outer space in connection with mineral resource extraction, in order to improve current discourse on the topic.
