I am responsible for the supervision of 100+ unionized workers and managing the safe on-time transportation operations at a major terminal (West Colton Hump Yard, CA). As a manager in the field, on a daily basis I am responsible for looking at our key measures and determining where improvements need to be made and what can be done during that shift to improve these measures, making sure trains are being built on time and departed out of the yard on time in order to meet our customer needs, and most importantly making sure our crews are working in a safe manner. I am in charge of the key measurement Industry Spot and Pull. I work with my crews that run each industry job to ensure safe and timely delivery of the customer’s cars. Since I have taken this task on we have met our monthly goal of 96% for the last three months. I am currently working with these same crews to develop job aids to assist in the proper delivery of the customers cars on days when crews that are not familiar with the job have to make the delivery. Knowledge of the rules and regulations is a must as this is how we test our employee’s to make sure they are following federal guidelines as well as our safety guidelines. I am also responsible for the timely completion of daily reports using several programs such as Storm, Net Control, TCS, and SAP of which I have in depth knowledge.
