Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. is a professional engineering firm that provides, construction, geotechnical, and environmental services to its clients. As an Environmental Scientist, I conducted comprehensive environmental site assessments for our clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. I conducted visual site assessments in the field, and desktop reviews of historic documentation to determine historic and existing environmental conditions of a site. I completed the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification for handling hazardous materials, and collected soil samples in the field. I assisted with National Environmental Policy Act research and reports. This position required working on a high volume of projects at one time, and balancing fieldwork with in-office demands.

Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ) is a nonprofit organization focused on giving a voice to communities suffering from incidents of pollution and contamination. CHEJ is working on a number of different national issues as well, such as protecting the health of our children, and supporting the communities being bombarded by natural gas development. As an intern, I assisted with research and data analysis for environmental health issues both for specific communities as well as for the national campaigns. I edited and updated annual publications, and wrote summaries of community activity for the CHEJ newsletter.
